ADAM
D. PERLMUTTER has been in legal practice in New York for nearly
two decades. His
work focuses primarily on New York DWI. Mr. Perlmutter has handled
hundreds of DWI cases including taking many of them successfully to
trial. He was previously an Assistant District Attorney in Queens
County where he handled numerous DWI cases involving breath testing,
refusals, and felony enhancements. Mr. Perlmutter has completed
extensive DWI coursework through the National College of DUI Defense
of which he has been amember since 2005, including three of
its summer sessions at the Harvard Law School. He also has
certifications in breath testing and standard field sobriety
testing. Mr. Perlmutter owns a fully operational Intoxilyzer 5000EN
machine, which is the same testing device used by the New York City
Police Department. He also has an extensive federal criminal
defense practice including death penalty litigation, white-collar
matters, organized crime, terrorism, narcotics, violent felonies and
environmental crimes. Mr. Perlmutter is a member of the prestigious
Criminal Justice Act Panels for the United States Courts for the
Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. He has appeared several
times on WABC7 and News Channel 4 as a legal commentator on criminal
justice issues. Mr. Perlmutter also appeared regularly on InSession
with Lisa Bloom on TruTV (formerly CourtTV). He serves on the
Forensics Committee of the New York Justice Task Force advising
policymakers on changes to New York laws to avoid wrongful
convictions. Mr. Perlmutter is also a member of the Legislative
Working Group of the Governor’s Impaired Driving Task Force. He is
the recent author of a chapter on trial practice for the Westlaw
Inside the Minds: New York DWI series. Mr. Perlmutter has also
taught DWI law for the New York State Bar Association and the New
York City Legal Aid Society. He is the recipient of the American
Jurisprudence award in trial advocacy from the University of
Wisconsin – Madison where he graduated with honors. Mr. Perlmutter
also received his undergraduate degree with honors from Columbia
University. He is admitted to practice in New York, Connecticut,
the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and
Northern Districts of New York, the Eastern and Western Districts of
Wisconsin, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second
Circuit.
He focuses on cases in New York City, Westchester and Long
Island.
